फल एवं तना छेदक कीट बैंगन का एक महत्वपूर्ण एवं प्रमुख कीट है। उत्तरी भारत और बांग्लादेश के कुछ क्षेत्रों में किसान पा रहे हैं कि दैनिक अनुप्रयोग भी प्रभावी नियंत्रण प्रदान नहीं करते हैं। मादा कीट छोटे बैंगन के पौधों की टहनियों पर अलग-अलग अंडे देती है। जल्द ही उभरने वाले छोटे लार्वा कोमल बढ़ते अंकुरों में अपना रास्ता बना लेते हैं, जहां वे लार्वा परजीवियों और चींटियों और भृंगों जैसे प्राकृतिक दुश्मनों से सुरक्षित रहते हैं। लार्वा की भोजन गतिविधि के कारण युवा अंकुर एक विशिष्ट तरीके से गिर जाते हैं। जैसे-जैसे बैंगन का पौधा विकसित होता है और फल देना शुरू करता है, मादा कीट प्राथमिकता से फल पर अंडे देती है, जिसमें उभरते हुए लार्वा बिल बनाते हैं। फल के आकार के आधार पर, एक समय में एक फल में कई लार्वा मौजूद हो सकते हैं। जैसे ही लार्वा फल में घुसते हैं, वे छेद को मलमूत्र या मलबे से बंद कर देते हैं ताकि शिकारियों को उन पर हमला करने से रोका जा सके।
