• Katyayani Bhasam (Beauveria bassiana 2×10⁸ CFU/ml) is a liquid bio insecticide, a living fungus and not a chemical.

How It Works (Mode of Action)

• Spores stick to the insect’s outer skin within 2 hours of the spray landing on it.
• They germinate in 20 to 24 hours, then drill through the cuticle using protease, chitinase and lipase enzymes.
• Inside the body the fungus multiplies and releases beauvericin and oosporein, which shut down the insect’s nerves and immune system.
• The insect stops feeding and dies in 3 to 7 days. Hard-bodied pests and soil grubs take 2 to 4 weeks.
• The dead insect turns hard and white. This is white muscardine, and it confirms the spray worked.
• Live insects the morning after spraying are normal. The fungus needs three days to reach the insect’s blood.

Method of Application

• Foliar spray: 5 ml per litre of water, which is 75 ml per 15-litre pump.
• Water volume: 150 to 200 litres per acre. Total 750 ml to 1 litre per acre.
• Soil drench or drip: 750 ml to 1 litre per acre applied to the root zone, for white grub and termite.
• Repeat every 7 to 10 days, 2 to 3 sprays.
• Wet the undersides of the leaves. Nymphs sit there.
• Spray in the late afternoon or evening only. Direct sunlight kills the spores in 15 minutes.
• Use the prepared spray the same day. Do not store diluted solution.
• Do not mix with fungicides. Carbendazim and mancozeb kill this product in the tank. Keep 5 to 7 days between a fungicide spray and this one.
  

When to Spray (Pest Stage and Threshold)

• Spray at first appearance, not at heavy infestation. The fungus needs 3 to 7 days, so a late spray costs a week of damage.
• Cotton whitefly: at 5 to 10 per leaf.
• Cotton jassid: at more than 2 per leaf with leaf crinkling.
• Cotton thrips: at more than 10 per leaf, or when silvering appears.
• Caterpillars (Spodoptera, Helicoverpa): at egg hatch to 2nd instar. Late spraying halves the result.
• Mealybug: at crawler stage, before the wax coat forms.
• White grub: soil drench at egg-lay, before roots are cut.
• For chilli, tomato and vegetables, follow the 2 defenders to 1 pest rule. If natural enemies are ahead, do not spray.

• Not recommended for mites. Beauveria kills adult mites but not their eggs, so the population comes back.
