ಇಮಾಮೆಕ್ಟಿನ್ ಬೆಂಜೊಯೇಟ್ 1.9% EC (ಕಾತ್ಯಾಯನಿ EMA 19)

Emamectin benzoate is an insecticide used to control caterpillars and other larval pests in field and horticultural crops. It is most used against bollworm in cotton, fruit and pod borer in chilli, tomato and chickpea, leaf folder and stem borer in paddy, and diamondback moth in cabbage. It is derived from the soil bacterium Streptomyces avermitilis.

Emamectin benzoate 1.9% EC is the liquid emulsifiable concentrate form, sprayed on foliage to control larval pests. Katyayani EMA 19 is used against bollworm in cotton, fruit borer in chilli, pod borer in chickpea, and leaf folder and hispa in paddy, at 150 to 235 ml per acre.

Mix 150 to 235 ml per acre in 150 to 200 litres of water, which works out to roughly 1 to 1.5 ml per litre. Spray in early morning or evening and cover the underside of leaves, where larvae feed. Do not spray during flowering or when bees are active, because emamectin benzoate is highly toxic to honeybees.

Field control usually lasts 7 to 10 days after spraying. The product moves into the leaf and holds there while surface residue breaks down in sunlight. In soil it degrades fast, with a field half-life of about one day. An unopened pack carries a two-year shelf life from the date of manufacture.

It cannot be made outside a licensed facility. Emamectin benzoate 1.9% EC is formulated at a CIB&RC-registered plant under a state manufacturing licence, with every batch tested before release. Katyayani EMA 19 is formulated and packed at our own plant in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh. Buying loose or unlabelled pesticide is illegal in India and unsafe to use.

Emamectin benzoate 1.9% EC is a liquid and is sold in millilitres, not grams. 100 ml of Katyayani EMA 19 is ₹235. A price quoted in grams normally refers to the 5% SG formulation, which is a granule sold by weight, so check which form you are comparing.

It is safe for the applicator at label dose with protective gear, but it is highly toxic to honeybees and to fish. Do not spray at flowering or when bees are foraging, and keep spray and washings away from ponds and channels. Wear gloves, full sleeves and a mask, and follow the toxicity triangle printed on the pack.

One litre of Katyayani EMA 19 is ₹1,171 on this page. The 100 ml pack at ₹235 works out to ₹2,350 per litre, so the one litre pack costs about half as much per millilitre. The 2 L, 5 L and 10 L packs bring the per-litre cost down further.

Katyayani sells emamectin benzoate 1.9% EC under the trade name EMA 19. The same active ingredient is sold under different trade names by different manufacturers, so compare the technical name and the percentage printed on the pack rather than the brand name.

The chemical name is (4″R)-4″-deoxy-4″-(methylamino)avermectin B1 benzoate, CAS number 155569-91-8. It is a semi-synthetic derivative of abamectin, produced from the soil bacterium Streptomyces avermitilis, and it belongs to the avermectin group, IRAC Group 6.

Mainly caterpillars, the larvae of moths and butterflies. That includes American and pink bollworm in cotton, fruit borer in chilli and tomato, pod borer in chickpea and pigeon pea, leaf folder and stem borer in paddy, diamondback moth in cabbage, and tobacco caterpillar. It also suppresses thrips and mites, but it does not control aphids, jassids or whitefly.
