Katyayani Ferrous Sulphate 19% Iron Micronutrient Fertilizer

Ferrous sulphate is used to correct iron deficiency in crops, which shows as interveinal chlorosis — yellow leaves with green veins on new growth. It is applied as a foliar spray at 2.5 g per litre, or to soil at up to 10 kg per acre.

Ferrous sulphate 19% costs roughly ₹120 to ₹420 per kg in India depending on brand and pack size, with bulk 25 kg packs at the lower end. Always check the iron percentage printed on the pack before comparing prices.

Ferrous sulphate heptahydrate (FeSO₄·7H₂O) contains about 20% iron and is sold in India as "Ferrous Sulphate 19%". The monohydrate form (FeSO₄·H₂O) contains about 33% iron and is sold as 30%. Always check which grade the pack states.

Ferrous sulphate fertilizer costs roughly ₹120 to ₹420 per kg in India. Bulk 25 kg packs work out cheapest per kg. At a 10 kg per acre soil rate, expect ₹1,200 to ₹2,500 per acre depending on the brand and pack size you buy.

In alkaline and calcareous soils the iron in ferrous sulphate oxidises and precipitates into forms roots cannot absorb. Use a foliar spray for a quick response, add elemental sulphur to acidify the root zone, or use an Fe-EDDHA chelate above pH 7.2.

Dissolve 2.5 g per litre of water and spray both leaf surfaces in early morning or late afternoon, repeating every 10 to 15 days until the yellowing clears. For soil application, broadcast up to 10 kg per acre mixed with organic manure into moist soil.

Ferrous sulphate is the most widely used iron fertilizer, at about 20% iron in the heptahydrate grade and 33% in the monohydrate. Chelated forms such as Fe-EDTA and Fe-EDDHA carry less iron by weight but stay plant-available in alkaline soils.

Ferrous sulphate is also called green vitriol, copperas and iron(II) sulphate, and its natural mineral form is melanterite. Its formula is FeSO₄, usually supplied as the heptahydrate FeSO₄·7H₂O. In India it is commonly written as फेरस सल्फेट.

Iron can be mixed with nitrogen and potassium fertilizers such as urea and MOP, but keep it away from DAP, SSP and other phosphate fertilizers, which lock iron into insoluble forms. Do not mix ferrous sulphate with lime or alkaline products.
