What Does Mycorrhiza Do for the Crop?

Mycorrhiza is a root partner. The fungus extends the root system into the surrounding soil, so the plant reaches nutrients and water that bare roots cannot.

Key benefits

  • Improves root hair formation, helping plants absorb more water and nutrients
  • Improves phosphorus, nitrogen and sulfur uptake from the soil
  • Strengthens roots and improves resistance to drought and stress
  • Helps plants resist soil-borne diseases by strengthening their natural defence
  • Promotes beneficial microbial activity and improves aeration and water infiltration
  • Reduces dependence on chemical fertilizers

One per-acre dose applies to all crops.

  • Broadcast: mix with 50 to 80 kg of farmyard manure, compost or vermicompost and broadcast into moist soil near the root zone at sowing or transplanting.
  • Planting pit or furrow: place it so it touches the root zone.
  • Nursery seedlings: dip the roots in a slurry.
  • The soil must be moist and the product must touch the roots.

Compatibility

Do not mix it with DAP, SSP or other high-phosphorus fertilizers.

How to Choose a Mycorrhiza Product

Judge a mycorrhiza brand on three things: the IP (infective propagules) per gram printed on the pack, the FCO licence number, and the cost per acre at the recommended dose. Compare cost per acre, not cost per kg. Use as per label.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Katyayani Bhumiraja Mycorrhiza? +

It is a granular biofertilizer containing Vesicular Arbuscular Mycorrhiza (VAM). It extends the root system so plants take up more phosphorus, nitrogen, sulfur and water, and it helps roots cope with drought and stress.

How much mycorrhiza should I apply per acre? +

Apply 4 to 8 kg per acre at sowing by direct broadcasting. Carrier-based products at 60 to 100 IP per gram need this range. Mix it with 50 to 80 kg of farmyard manure or compost.

Is there a per-litre dose for mycorrhiza? +

No. Mycorrhiza is a soil product, so the dose is given per acre only. The one liquid method is a root-dip slurry for nursery seedlings; follow the label for the mixing ratio.

What is the price of Katyayani Bhumiraja Mycorrhiza? +

Currently Rs 598 for 4 kg, Rs 268 for 1 kg, Rs 959 for 8 kg, Rs 1,981 for 20 kg and Rs 2,359 for 25 kg on Krishi Direct. Prices can change, so check the product page.

How do I apply mycorrhiza? +

Broadcast it mixed with farmyard manure at sowing, place it in the planting pit or furrow so it touches the roots, or dip nursery seedling roots in a slurry. Soil must be moist, and root contact is essential.

Which crops benefit most from mycorrhiza? +

Paddy, wheat, maize, pulses, sugarcane, cotton, turmeric, banana, coconut, tea, coffee and fruit trees. It does not work on cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, radish, mustard, spinach or beet, which are non-mycorrhizal.

Can mycorrhiza be mixed with DAP or other fertilizers? +

Do not mix it with DAP, SSP or other high-phosphorus fertilizers. It can be mixed with granular fertilizers at sowing, so keep phosphorus-rich products away from it.

How does mycorrhiza work in the soil? +

It extends the root system into the surrounding soil, improving phosphorus, nitrogen and sulfur uptake. It also helps roots overcome water stress and promotes beneficial microbial activity, which improves overall plant health.

How do I compare mycorrhiza brands? +

Check the IP per gram printed on the pack, the FCO licence number, and the cost per acre at the recommended dose. Weight alone means little, because a concentrated powder can beat a larger bag.

What do farmers search for, and is this the same product? +

Farmers search mycorrhiza fertilizer, mycorrhiza biofertilizer, mycorrhizal biofertilizer and Bhumiraja. This listing is Katyayani Bhumiraja Mycorrhiza VAM granular biofertilizer, rated 4.5 from 1,117 customer reviews on Krishi Direct today.

Can I use mycorrhiza on wheat in Nov-Dec, and what about mustard? +

Wheat is on the crop list: apply 4 to 8 kg per acre at sowing with farmyard manure. Mustard and cauliflower are non-mycorrhizal crops, so skip mycorrhiza there.

Which pack is cheapest per kg, and does it deliver across India? +

Currently the 25 kg pack at Rs 2,359 is cheapest, about Rs 94 per kg. Home delivery is available across India in 1, 4, 8, 20 and 25 kg packs. Prices can change.
