What Is Inside: How Each Fungus Works
| Fungus | What it is used for | Sign on dead insects |
|---|---|---|
| Verticillium lecanii | Sucking pests: whitefly, aphids, thrips, jassids, mealybugs and scales | Spores stick to the insect, grow inside it and kill it |
| Beauveria bassiana | Caterpillars, beetles, borers, semiloopers, whitefly, thrips and termites | White fungal growth (white muscardine) |
| Metarhizium anisopliae | Mainly soil pests: white grubs, termites, root weevils, cutworms; also hoppers and beetles | Green fungal growth (green muscardine) |
How it works in the field, step by step
- Fungal spores attach to the insect body and germinate when temperature and humidity are right.
- The spores enter the insect's body, cause infection and lead to death.
- The fungus then grows outside the dead insect as a white or yellowish mould and releases more spores, so the cycle continues.
Which Crops Can You Use It On, and At What Dose?

| Crop group | Target crops |
|---|---|

Problem-wise Use (Whitefly, Thrips, Mealybug, Termite)
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Whitefly | Spray 2 L per acre in the evening. Cover the undersides of leaves where eggs and nymphs sit. Repeat after 10 to 15 days. Yellow sticky traps give faster control. |
| Thrips in chilli | Verticillium and Beauveria infect thrips on leaves and flowers. Metarhizium infects thrips pupae in the soil, which breaks the life cycle. |
| Mealybugs | Works on cotton, grapes, papaya, guava and vegetables. Spray thoroughly on stems, leaf joints and fruit clusters where the colonies hide. |
| Termites and white grub | Mix 2 L with 50 to 100 kg of moist compost or FYM and keep it in shade for 3 to 5 days. Then spread it in the field or root zone. |
How and When to Spray
- Dose: 2 L per acre for foliar spray; 2 L per acre for soil application.
- For whitefly, spray in the evening and cover both sides of the leaf, especially the underside.
- Fungal spores need the right temperature and humidity to germinate, so follow the pack label for the full instructions.
- For whitefly, repeat after 10 to 15 days.
- At 2 L per acre, a 1 L bottle covers half an acre per spray, and a 2 L pack covers one acre.
